Emblematic Addition for a School of Architecture
Deadline: 02.01.2011

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of its foundation in Quebec City, the Laval University School of Architecture is organizing an open ideas competition for an “emblematic addition” to the heritage building where it is currently situated. This addition can be understood as a formally independent pivot point, composed of one or several parts, connected to the existing building. Its placement should reaffirm the entry hierarchy and the interior axes of circulation. Its volume should transform the building’s exterior appearance, complementing it with a new symbolic icon.

The competition places emphasis on the strategy of the intervention on the existing building and its site rather than on the programmatic details of the School of Architecture itself.
