Christiane Celle, Be-Poles, and Clic Gallery are proud to present PORTRAITS DE VILLES: THE CITY PORTRAITS COLLECTION. The show will open June 29, 2011 and run through July 31, 2011.

Is New York The World's Capital City?

It will be so at Clic Gallery during the exhibition of twelve City Portraits, achieved by just as many photographers. The exhibition, organized by Paris based independent publishers be-poles, presents a retrospective of their very first collection of photography books. Launched in 2007, be-poles’s City Portraits are embodying years of travel, curiosity and graphic sensitivity. The first titles, Los Angeles, Naples, Rome, and Tokyo, were followed by itineraries in Reykjavik, Dubaï, Paris, Athènes, New York, Pékin, Sarajevo and Moscou. Realized both by established and upcoming talents of various nationalities, all of the books have in common a poetic edge which makes each City Portrait a wordless yet intense, generous, and intelligible story.

Have you ever seen the fog sneak down the mountainside as thousands of phantoms wave their arms ? A sole evocation, a sole image and one is straight away immersed in Reykjavik’s mystery. The twelve selected cities have equally fascinated their portraitist. The collection also appeals by its sober and well-proportioned format. Echoing the famous Moleskine notebooks that every globe-trotter carries with him on his travels, the City Portraits retain a similar charm and elegance.

The Critical Moment: Architecture in the Expanded Field
Thursday, September 15, 2011
through Saturday, November 05, 2011
Cooper Union
The Arthur A. Houghton Jr. Gallery
7 East 7th Street
New York, New York

Debuting in the Houghton Gallery at Cooper Union, graduates of the Master of Architecture II Program will have their innovative 2011 thesis projects on display in "The Critical Moment: Architecture in the expanded field." The show, which is free, marks the first public viewing of the Master students' work. Without prescribed boundaries, the projects address a myriad of critical issues shaping today's architectural discourse, ranging from urban theory to the present condition of globalization and the continual emergence of new scientific developments and technologies. The exhibition illuminates the graduates' year-long extensive research using literature, photography, drawing, technology, history and urban studies to develop innovative programs, all of which feature configurations and narratives that bring forth potential solutions that may not be obvious to the viewer.

In 2009, the Master of Architecture (M.Arch. II) enrolled its first class and provides graduate students with an innovative approach and experience to a studio-based, design research post-professional degree. Open to applicants with a first professional degree in architecture, students are challenged to push the frontiers of design and form critical responses to modern and contemporary issues in the practice and theory of architecture.
