Prez Will Leave MAS
Only to rejoin after a sabbatical

Everyone's picked up on the story first posted on the Observer's Real Estate blog about Kent Barwick's departure from the Municipal Arts Society (MAS), and for good reason. For at least the past three decades Barwick has been a tireless advocate for preservation of architecture across the city. Barwick steps down early next year, and the search is apparently out for his replacement, though he will return to the MAS in an emeritus position, according to a release posted by the Observer. In a candid moment, Barwick admits in the release, "I realize it may reveal a lack of imagination on my part to sign on for what amounts to a fourth career at MAS. But for one addicted to New York, working here is endlessly fascinating. How can you imagine playing golf when you could be wrestling with developers and politicians over the future of the most interesting place on the planet?"
