Molteni&C Dada Unifor Flagship Store
60 Greene Street
The Italian design powerhouse Molteni has brought together its various furniture, kitchen, and office system lines in a new flagship store in the heart of Soho. The renovation of this 8,500-square-foot, bi-level space was designed by Milan-based Studio Cerri & Associati, which maintained the classic cast-iron structure and facade, making the most of the space’s large windows and skylight to create a luminous showroom for Molteni’s high-end lines. The space features a striking staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade, the sole architectural intervention in an otherwise low-key interior that offers a neutral backdrop for the furniture on view. On that front is Luca Meda’s 505 modular system, which extends from floor to ceiling throughout the store to organize the product displays. Classic Molteni pieces like Aldo Rossi’s Piroscafo bookcase accompany 2009 introductions, among them the Wood collection by Rodolfo Dordoni; the Turner sofa by Hannes Wettstein; the Doda armchair by Ferruccio Laviani; and the SKiN sofa by Pritzker Prize–winner Jean Nouvel. The store’s lower level, which houses furnishings for bedroom and living areas, features Bridge, a kitchen line that inaugurates a partnership between Giorgio Armani and Molteni, and features a simple-yet-sleek system for both residential and contract markets.
