Located on the ground floor of Thomas W. Lamb’s historic Paramount Hotel, this cozy space designed by Susan Jaques has the elegance an old school hotel bar without the stuffiness of one. Her skillful use of mirrors and lighting opens up this small space on the building’s ground floor, which now complements the rest of the recently revamped hotel better than the sports bar that preceded it.

Jaques, along with the Paramount Hotel’s director of engineering Stella Hollman, transformed the room from sporty to sophisticated in a short amount of time. Jaques outfitted the bar in opulent—but not over-the-top—fixtures, including hand-blown gold Murano glass pendant lamps over the bar, elegant cut-crystal chandeliers, striking oversized black and white photographs, as well as sumptuous red velvet mohair banquettes to lounge on while sipping a cocktail and imagining yourself in another era.
