Now on view at the Maritime Museum of Barcelona is a project by 15-year-old Achilleas Souras. Dubbed Save Our Souls, the project was born of the refugee crises affecting Souras’s native Greece. In the process of reaching Greece, refugees frequently leave behind their life jackets. According to Souras, “In the past months more than 450,000 discarded life jackets have accumulated on the Greek island of Lesbos alone.”
In Save Our Souls, Souras repurposes the lifejackets into shelter. Souras is currently enrolled in an architecture summer camp at Columbia University.
