The Architect’s Newspaper is seeking a part-time design competition manager for our Best of Product Awards competition. The design competition manager would be responsible for the outreach, organization, and development of our Best of Product Awards competition and should be based in New York.
Commitment
The design competition manager is expected to come into the office from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday for approximately twelve weeks, from April 15 to July 2018.
Requirements
-Experience in e-mail outreach, ideally for a media-based company
-Good working design knowledge and awareness of furniture brands and building products as well as the design market
-Highly organized
-Personable and comfortable talking with many people throughout the day
-Able to stay on task and work independently
-College degree in marketing, PR, journalism, communications, or the equivalent
Tasks:
Provide support for all aspects of organizing competitions, including research, development, public outreach, documentation, and communication
Assist in the development of all design aspects for the competition, including producing briefs, websites, web + print materials, and trophies
Build outreach from existing lists to key associations, firms, PR people, etc. to contact for competitions
Coordinate emails to go out to inform/encourage entry
Coordinate with editorial and sales staff to send out direct communication regarding entry
Facilitate external communications and outreach
Coordinate with marketing and editorial to create calendar and content for social media blasts
Assist with project publications (print/online), supporting designers, editors, marketing and contributors
Assist with backend portion of competition software to create materials for judges’ review
Plan first-round/in-house judging session with editorial staff
Plan judging session for external judges

The Best of Product Awards is an opportunity for designers and manufacturers to reach our audience—an eclectic mix of top-tier architects, designers, and tastemakers.
Designers and manufacturers are invited to submit new products for review by a jury comprised of design professionals and A|N editors. Entries will be evaluated for innovation, aesthetics, performance, and value. Products must have been introduced to the market no earlier than January 2017 and must be available through December 2018.
