Architecture and design museum planned for Helsinki

Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture released a statement saying that “the world’s best museum of architecture and design will be built in Helsinki.”

Two existing museums, Helsinki’s Design Museum and Museum of Finnish Architecture, will merge to create the new institution, slated for a yet-to-be-determined location in the city’s South Harbour neighborhood. That’s the same area where the Guggenheim Helsinki was supposed to rise, although plans for that building were scrapped in 2016.

The ministry didn’t release any information about the design of the new building or its architect, or if there will be a wild international competition to shape the structure.
