It’s the most wonderful time of the year (for organizations and exhibitions, at least): The Chicago-based Graham Foundation has revealed the 36 international organizations who will split $480,000 in grants, all committed to expanding on the ways we interact with architecture.
It’s quite a varied list, too, broken up into four sections: Exhibitions; Film, Video, and New Media Projects; Publications, and Student-Led Publications. Much in the same way as the 2020 individual grant recipients, announced at the end of July, varied from well-known practitioners to up-and-coming theorists, so too did the foundation’s approach to awarding the 2020 Grants to Organizations.
Of course, there are the big New York names including The Queens Museum’s After the Plaster Foundation, or, “Where can we live?” exhibition, an exploration of the economics, ethics, and what “home” really means. Also included are the Museum of Modern Art’s forthcoming Reconstructions: Architecture and Blackness in America exhibition and the Black Reconstruction Collective for Black Reconstruction Collective Manifesting Textile within the exhibition itself. The Storefront for Art and Architecture’s Building Cycles 2, the second iteration of its Building Cycles program, now focusing on landscapes and territory, was also given a grant.
The full list of recipients is as follows, and more information on all of them are available on the Graham Foundation’s website:
