Affordable Housing, Neighborhoods, and Communities

Investment in affordable housing was a key driver in reversing the trend of neighborhood abandonment in the 1970s and 80s. Today, however, affordable housing developments face many challenges, including rapid demographic changes, upward pressure on rents, and areas of consistent, concentrated poverty. Join a diverse panel of city officials, developers, and community advocates to discuss the opportunities that affordable housing can bring to our neighborhoods, as well as the need to build more equitable neighborhoods through zoning, economic development, community engagement, and prioritization of tenants’ rights. This program delves into the themes of our exhibition Affordable New York: A Housing Legacy.
