MEASURE S and the FUTURE OF LOS ANGELES: a roundtable discussio:
Please join us on February 15 as we hear from civic leaders passionate about the future of Los Angeles. Some think Measure S is the impetus we need to finally get our Community Plans updated. Others think Measure S sets a dangerous precedent of exclusion and fear. Will Measure S devastate our local economy and make housing even less affordable? Or will it serve as the ‘crisis of constraint’ that allows new ideas to flourish?
For the past dozen years, AIA|LA has been advocating to Los Angeles City Council to invest in a more robust and inclusive community plan update process. We’ve also encouraged city leadership to invest in a long-term vision plan for the city and to re-calibrate our zoning capacity to more accurately reflect the societal demands of tomorrow. We want to preserve the authentic fabric of the city while also allowing for innovation and growth. However, despite years of advocacy (and passion) we seem to be gaining rather little traction with our elected officials.
Our goal is to discover a more effective platform of community engagement that will allow architects and designers to share prospective solutions for a healthier, more inclusive, more delightful and more beautiful city.
