The Arquine International Architecture Competition calls for the design and construction of a Pavilion that, inserted in the city temporarily, manages to generate, based on its own discourse, an innovative and sustainable proposal, which allows the development of an open and public program. that builds a place for the interaction between architecture and citizenship.

The MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion is the benchmark per se for each edition of the MEXTRÓPOLI City and Architecture Festival.

The MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion is the benchmark per se for each edition of the MEXTRÓPOLI City and Architecture Festival.

Competitors must project a piece that meets the conditions specified in the bases of this competition in terms of times, costs and characteristics, considering, as a fundamental part for the evaluation of the proposal, the ability to provoke and attract the public itself.
This Competition is open, anonymous, and international – in a single phase – and is governed by the provisions established in the administrative and technical bases.

From the moment the competitor formalizes his participation, he agrees to accept all parts of the Competition without appeal to its regulatory, technical and procedural provisions established in the administrative and technical bases.

The Competition for the MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion is convened by Arquine, who will have the responsibility of organizing the technical-administrative information before and after the development of the competition, knowing the queries made by the participants and giving the corresponding answers, according to what is established in these bases, write the minutes of the plenary meeting of the Jury and the award minutes, as well as all the actions for the proper development of this competition.

Objectives

Convene, with a universal character, to present ideas for the development and construction of a Pavilion of public vocation, recyclable and reusable, complying with the requirements established in these bases.
Converting the Pavilion into a reference space within the framework of the MEXTRÓPOLI International Festival of Architecture and City, which manages to provide the festival with a space for reflection and discussion on architecture and the city.

Competitors

Architects, designers, urban planners, sociologists, architecture students and / or the like from all over the world can participate, individually or as a team. Teams can include members of any discipline, even if it is suggested that one of the members be an architect.

It is not necessary to have some type of registration from the professional association of the country of origin to participate.

Only one proposal can be submitted per team.

In no case may the member of one team be part of another.

They will not be able to participate:

Members of the Jury of this competition, members of Arquine or MEXTRÓPOLI.
People with consanguinity ties with the members of the Jury; spouses or people related to a relationship of emotional coexistence or affinity, or those with whom stable professional relationships are maintained.

Participants may make inquiries in writing to the address concurso@arquine.com, through the email with which they register in the system.

A complete and anonymous list of the queries and clarifications made through the competition website will be sent and will be shared by all participants.

The list of questions and answers, together with the complete bases, will be provided to the jury of the competition.

Inscription

To make your registration effective, you must provide a single fee (the cost will vary depending on the registration phase in which you decide to make the payment):

First stage of registration

From October 4 to November 30, 2021:

$ 1,250 pesos (Mexico) or US $ 60 dollars (International)

Second stage of registration

From December 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022

$ 1,500 pesos (Mexico) or US $ 75 dollars (International)

Only one payment needs to be made. The amount depends on the phase in which the registration to the competition becomes effective. There is no additional cost to registration, since the entire process of participation and submission of proposals will be through the internet.

The considerations arising from these consultations will be mandatory for all parties, since they constitute an integral part of the terms and conditions that govern the competition.

Inscription

Once the contribution has been made, the competitor ust send an email with the image of the deposit slip or bank transfer, with the same data, later they will receive a registration key with which they can create a user and access the system.

The cost of the fee is per team and not per participant.
Anonymity

The works will be presented under the code generated by the system in the registration process, this must be placed in the upper right corner of the sheet and the file must be identified only with this code [ARQ-24C-XXXX].

Proposals that are submitted after the deadline or violate the anonymity requirement will be automatically excluded.

Documentation to present

A digital image containing the proposal must be submitted for the correct understanding of the project. This image should include:

Assembly plan, plants and sections of the proposal with a duly specified scale suitable for reading and understanding.
Schemes, views, sketches, collage, or any other representation of free technique that helps to express the idea of ​​the project.
Construction details that they consider necessary for the description of the project with a properly specified scale and adequate for the reading of the project.
Descriptive text of maximum 250 words. The descriptions or texts may only be in Spanish or English.

The image must be rectangular, horizontal, 90cm (width) x 60cm (height) in 72dpi, JPG and no larger than 5MB so that it can be uploaded within the system. The file name must match the user code assigned at the time of registration [ARQ-23C-XXXX].

Other formats or other forms of delivery of the material will not be accepted, only projects that are uploaded through the system within the established times will be evaluated.

Jury

The selection of the jury members is very important. Their experience in the subject to be competed should be valued, to ensure a high level of demand in the review of proposals. The jury will be able to choose as the winner a proposal that, without exactly complying with all the bases, manages to propose a solution that it considers superior.

The documents or comments generated in the plenary session of the jury may be published on the various Arquine channels.
Once the Arquine team has downloaded the project, the competitors will receive an email with the file download confirmation within 24 hours.

Awards

The prizes will be the following:

First prize:
Construction of the proposed MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion 2022 *
$ 100,000.00 Mexican pesos
MEXTROPASE VIP for team members (2 **) and delivery of a pack of Arquine books.

 

Second prize:
$ 50,000.00 Mexican pesos
MEXTROPASE VIP for team members (2 **) and delivery of a pack of Arquine books

 

Third award:
$ 25,000.00 Mexican pesos
MEXTROPASE VIP for team members (2 **) and delivery of a pack of Arquine books
Mentions:
The Jury may agree to mention how many projects it deems worthy of such distinction.

 

* The winning team must follow up on the development of the work, provide Arquine with the plans of the executive project for the construction of the MEXTRÓPOLI Pavilion and follow up on its construction (through the channels agreed after the moment of failure with the team by Arquine).

Publication

Proposals may be reproduced for dissemination by the competition organizers for any purpose other than promoting it.

Competitors may choose not to authorize the presentation of their proposals if they are not awarded, which must be expressly indicated.

Intellectual Property Rights

Competitors will retain the intellectual property of the submitted works, but will assign to the competition organizers the rights of exhibition, reproduction and publication and others that correspond to the object of the competition, who are obliged to disseminate the name of their authors in each publication, exhibition or activity in which the proposal is incorporated. Likewise, the authors undertake to refer to the convening bodies of the competition in any subsequent publication in which their proposal appears.

 

The works presented may not be used for the development of projects by architects, engineers or technicians other than the respective authors.

The papers presented may only be developed within the framework of MEXTRÓPOLI 2022.

In case of publishing or disseminating the project built in other media, it should be mentioned that it arises from the Arquine Competition No.
