First Friday (observed on the second Friday of September)
Join Asymptote Architecture at its office for drinks, conversation, and a behind the scenes look at their ongoing work. The League’s First Fridays are monthly opportunities for League members to visit the offices of leading design practices to see work on the boards and learn more about the offices’ organization and design processes. These informal social gatherings feature brief office tours and presentations along with happy hour drinks arranged by the host office.
Lise Anne Couture and Hani Rashid founded Asymptote Architecture in 1998 as a multidisciplinary practice at the intersection of culture, technology, and environmental sustainability. Asymptote uses advanced digital tools and engineering solutions to design buildings, master plans, art installations, virtual reality environments, interiors, and objects. Recently, the firm has designed high-rise buildings in Zhengzhou, China and in Seoul where the firm will employ component-based construction strategies adopted from the automotive, aerospace, and marine industries. Additional recent projects include the ING regional bank headquarters in Ghent, Belgium; the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, Austria; and the Changsha Eco Tech City in Changsha, China. Asymptote has received a 2010 Middle Eastern Architecture Award for the Yas Viceroy Hotel in Abu Dhabi; AIA New York Chapter Design Awards; Le Grand Prix de l’Architecture (Paris); and the 2004 Frederick Keisler Prize, among others.
