Built To Heal

December 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EST

Free

Join MASS Design Group for their year-end event, featuring a conversation with Dr. Paul Farmer on Thursday, December 17th at 7 pm EST.

Among the things we have experienced this year, one thing is certain: buildings can hurt, and buildings can heal. MASS’s model of practice—be proximate, serve partners, and deliver mission-driven design outcomes—is working and is needed now more than ever. In recognition of their service to society, MASS was named the WSJ Magazine 2020 Architecture Innovator of the Year.

MASS will honor Dr. Paul Farmer, co-founder of Partners In Health and public health pioneer, with their 2020 Design Hero Award. Dr. Farmer’s unwavering commitment to health as a fundamental human right, along with his optimism, grit, and perseverance, have been instrumental to the ethos of MASS.

The 2020 Design Hero Award will be presented by MASS Board Member Karen Conway, recipient of our inaugural Design Hero Award in 2019. Additional presenters include MASS Principals Christian Benimana, Sierra Bainbridge, Alan Ricks, Michael Murphy, and Katie Swenson.

In a conversation moderated by Jared Bowen, Boston’s GBH Executive Arts Editor, Dr. Farmer and the MASS team will reflect on 2020 events, share outlooks on 2021, and discuss lessons from Dr. Farmer’s new book, Fevers, Feuds, and Diamonds: Ebola and the Ravages of History.
