Dallas Architecture Forum, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing challenging and on-going public discourse about architecture, design and the urban environment, is pleased to present award-winning Texas architect Arthur Andersson of Austin, Texas. He will speak on Wednesday, February 4 at the Magnolia Theatre, West Village, 3699 McKinney Avenue.
The lecture by Mr. Andersson will occur at 7 p.m. with a complimentary reception beginning at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission, and $5 for students (with ID). Tickets can be purchased at the door before the lecture. No reservations are needed to attend Forum lectures. Dallas Architecture Forum members receive free admission to all regular Forum lectures as a benefit of membership, and AIA members can earn one hour of CE credit for each lecture. Arthur W. Andersson and F. Christian Wise founded Andersson-Wise Architects in 2001, focused on the idea that a collaborative approach to design leads to a built solution attuned to its purpose, as well as the broader issues of image and context. As Design Director, Andersson’s role as Principal-In-Charge is to provide leadership by establishing design concepts and integrating the client into the collaborative process. Andersson has practiced architecture over three decades throughout the United States in Kansas City, New Orleans and Austin. He studied architecture at the University of Kansas and at the University of London, England graduating with a Bachelor of Environmental Design. He collaborated with Charles W. Moore in designing the 1984 Louisiana World Exposition in New Orleans, and also established an office with Moore in Austin. He is a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects.
For Andersson-Wise, the fundamental elements that give buildings meaning are found in nature. The W Hotel + Residences with Austin City Limits LIVE at the Moody Theater, the Topfer Theatre at ZACH, the Dining Hall & Student Center and the Dormitory & Faculty Residences at St. Stephens Episcopal School, and Temple Beth Shalom on the Jewish Community Center in Austin are a short list of his recently completed projects. Andersson was most recently selected to design a sustainably driven event center for the Boy Scouts of America called the Summit Bechtel Reserve: Ridge Leadership Center including a 300 seat lecture hall, dining hall, central lodge, and visitor lodging in West Virginia. Andersson’s projects are full of light and atmosphere, the physical embodiment of the great Charles Moore’s influential tenet that architecture is about enhancing a sense of place.
