Claire Zimmerman, PhD, will deliver a lecture titled Arcades of Detroit as part of DISCUSSIONS in Architectural History and Theory.

Zimmerman is an architect and architectural historian focusing on modern architecture, industrialization and processes of fabrication, and twentieth-century history. She is currently associate professor of history of art and director of doctoral studies at the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning of the University of Michigan. She recently co-curated New Brutalist Image 1949-1955 (with Victoria Walsh, Royal College of Art; November 2014-October 2015) at Tate Britain, on the experimental collaborations between members of the Independent Group and Ove Arup. Zimmerman’s book Photographic Architecture in the Twentieth Century (University of Minnesota Press, 2014) joins a co-edited essay collection, Neo-avant-garde and Postmodern: Postwar Architecture in Britain and Beyond (with Mark Crinson) that appeared as Volume 21 in the Yale Studies in British Art (Yale University Press) in fall 2010. Her monograph on Mies van der Rohe was published by Taschen in 2006.
