Summary of Session:
Referring to the American Institute of Architects AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards NCARB Rules of Conduct, this session will explore in detail the obligations that design professionals hold to others (the public, clients, their professions, colleagues—and the environment). There will be active discussion of real-life ethical challenges and situations where a professional must weigh and choose among seemingly competing obligations, to give attendees tools to make wise ethical decisions in practice. The session will include discussion of ethical challenges today, with a look to the future, including expanded and global practice, centering ethics in the context of the protection of the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
