Friedman Benda announces Design in Dialogue, a series of online interviews hosted by curator and historian Glenn Adamson. Join leading voices from the field—designers, makers, critics, and curators—as they discuss their work and ideas. Conversations are held on Zoom for 45 minutes + 15 minutes participatory Q&A, beginning at 11am Eastern Standard Time, three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

On MONDAY MAY 4: ALICE STORI LIECHTENSTEIN and MARLÈNE HUISSOUD will join us to discuss Walden, an upcoming virtual exhibition at Schloß Hollenegg for Design in Austria, curated by Lichtenstein and featuring Huissoud’s innovative bio-designs.

WEDNESDAY MAY 6: NENDO, founded by OKI SATO in 2002, brings a characteristically precise, ethereally light touch to projects ranging from furniture to exhibition design, each one based on a moment of revelatory insight into everyday life.  RSVP here

FRIDAY MAY 8: SARAH SCHLEUNING, Margot B. Perot senior curator of decorative arts and design at the Dallas Museum of Art, will discuss recent exhibition projects including Iris Van Herpen, Women + Design, and Speechless: Different by Design.  RSVP here

MONDAY MAY 11TH: STEPHEN BURKS will speak about his globe-spanning and pluralistic design practice, which often involves intensive collaboration with traditional artisans. Burks will also preview a new collaboration with the Crafts Program at Berea College, which reflects the ethnic diversity of Appalachia.

WEDNESDAY MAY 13TH: JEANNE GREENBERG, founder and owner of the gallery Salon94, will share stories and insights about her progressive approach—which moves with unique fluidity across the disciplines of art and design—and the challenges and opportunities of the present moment.

FRIDAY MAY 15TH: DARRIN ALFRED (DENVER ART MUSEUM)MONICA OBNISKI (HIGH MUSEUM OF ART), and BOBBYE TIGERMAN (LACMA) will join us for a conversation about curatorial collaboration, focusing on the exhibitions Serious Play: Design in Midcentury America and Scandinavian Design and the United States, 1890-1980.

MONDAY MAY 18TH: ADAM SILVERMAN, a ceramic artist whose work marries architectonic structure to mercurial surfaces, will offer insights into his new project Common Ground: which explores how deeply-considered objects can serve to bind people together .

WEDNESDAY MAY 20TH: ALEXANDRA LANGE, leading architectural critic, will share her thoughts on the pandemic’s impact on the built environment – drawing lessons, in part, from her recently published book The Design of Childhood.

FRIDAY MAY 22ND: ARIC CHEN, globetrotting citizen of the design world, will talk about his wide-ranging projects including building the collection at the Hong Kong museum M+, and his role as curatorial director of Design Miami/.
