Glass House Presents: Josef Albers Color Workshop

May 22, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Join us at 11 am EST on Zoom for an hour-long, hands-on color workshop led by Fritz Horstman, Director of Education at The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. Additional space is now available, kindly register here.

Working from Josef Albers’s book Interaction of Color, we will experiment with colors that you may already have around your home. We will try our hands at exercises that Albers invented in his time teaching at the Bauhaus, Black Mountain College and Yale, such as One-Color-Becomes-Two, Reversed Grounds, and Afterimage. Before the session begins, please gather the following materials. The more colors the better.

•Old magazines, gift wrap and packaging (we’ll be finding flat colorful areas that can be cut out)
•Construction paper (if possible)
•Colorful shirts, napkins, place mats, book covers – anything flat made up of a single color (these things won’t be cut)
•White paper

These workshops are useful to all artists and non-artists alike, and no prior experience is required. If you are interested in leading a self-directed color workshop with kids, visit
