Kustaa Saksi and Tuomas Markunpoika: New Frontiers of Finnish Design

March 31, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

Free

Join us for an evening with the acclaimed Latino designers, Emiliano Godoy and Rodrigo Corral. Born in Mexico City, Godoy’s products are on view in Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.  With a commitment to a socially and environmentally responsible practice, Godoy develops processes that rely on skilled labor and utilize local materials.

Graphic designer Rodrigo Corral has designed covers and jackets for some of the most memorable literary works of the last decade, including books written by Junot Díaz, Chuck Palahniuk, and Gary Shteyngart. Corral is Creative Director of Farrar, Straus and Giroux and Creative Director at Large for New Directions in New York City. He also runs Rodrigo Corral Studio.

“Emiliano Godoy and Rodrigo Corral” is part of DISEÑO, a series of public lectures and hands-on workshops featuring the achievements of Latino designers and their impact on design practice and culture, initiated by Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum and El Museo del Barrio. This program is funded by the Smithsonian Center for Latino Initiatives.

Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial is made possible by generous support from Edward and Helen Hintz, and Madeleine Rudin Johnson.

Additional funding is provided by Amita and Purnendu Chatterjee, August Heckscher Exhibition Fund, Margery and Edgar Masinter, May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Inc., Ehrenkranz Fund, The Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, Rockwell Group, Esme Usdan Exhibition Endowment Fund, and the Consulate General of Finland.
