Join nycoba NOMA and ThriveNYC at SAP as we stop the stigma from getting the care that people need. ThriveNYC is changing the culture by encouraging Architects to recognize and be part of the solution in their offices and organizations, through our mental health listening sessions
Sisters Thrive and Brothers Thrive were created under ThriveNYC by the First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray in partnership with historically Black-led organizations to promote mental health and wellness within Black communities. Sisters Thrive and Brothers Thrive work to raise awareness about mental illness, substance misuse and the stigma associated with seeking treatment. Sisters Thrive and Brothers Thrive is consistently working to encourage a more culturally relevant mental health workforce as part of the recently created Mental Health Advisory Group, create safe spaces throughout the boroughs for conversations, support and strategy building, and leverage the leadership of Black organizations to encourage their networks to be trained in Mental Health First Aid.
Goals of the Listening Session:
The goal of these sessions is to reduce the stigma around mental health in our community by sharing personal experiences in a safe space.
The aim is to hear:
What mental health means to the participants in the community
Have a discussion and explore the challenges and factors that that relate to Black mental health
Share community solutions that may need more promotion or support.
Additional goals:
Raise awareness and consider a range of views that allow people to share their stories
Identify possible community solutions
