DOCOMOMO New York/Tri-State is hosting a special night to celebrate the legacy of The Four Seasons Restaurant before it leaves the iconic, Philip Johnson-designed space that it has occupied continuously since 1959. A Modern Affair will be a unique opportunity to bid farewell to this mid-century Modern masterpiece that was custom-designed for The Four Seasons. Housed within Park Avenue’s Seagram Building, The Four Seasons has been revered for decades by architects, design aficionados, and New Yorkers alike. Its monumental spaces showcase Johnson’s personal approach to Modernism and reflect the optimism and energy of post-war New York. The evening will also honor architect and philanthropist Phyllis Lambert, whose original vision gave rise to The Four Seasons, and feature remarks by architect Elizabeth Diller. The second biannual A Modern Affair benefits the preservation, education, and advocacy efforts of DOCOMOMO New York/Tri-State to safeguard buildings and sites of the Modern movement.
