NSO In Your Neighborhood: From the Strings To Your Ears Afternoon Session 1

Acoustics are a natural part of the built environment and the quality of sound is affected by the materials that make up built space. Join us on an acoustic tour as a National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) string quartet plays music in three different spaces inside the Museum. The musicians – Jae-Yeon Kim, violin; Wanzhen Li, violin; Daniel Foster, viola; and Steven Honigberg, cello – are joined by Andrew Hulva, graduate student of acoustics from Virginia Tech, who helps us understand the science of acoustics and leads us on a journey to discover how a room’s space and building materials are used to promote beautiful sound. This program is presented as part of the NSO In Your Neighborhood celebration in the Washington, D.C., Downtown/Penn Quarter neighborhoods.
