Open house showcasing contemporary works of Textile and Fiber at browngrotta arts in Wilton, CT

May 13, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm EDT

Converting familiar materials into extraordinary works of contemporary Fiber Art, the browngrotta arts presents Adaptation: Artists Respond to Change a rare opportunity to see and buy works from 46 artist-makers of global repute. You can also view select works online at Artsy.

Decorating your home or growing your private collection, the show features museum-quality hand-crafted woven textiles and vessels, baskets, ceramic sculptures, and other one-of-a-kind dimensional art.

Artists of Fiber Art have a unique and inherently harmonious relationship with the environment, from their intimate use of natural materials to the fundamentally “slow art” process of hand craftsmanship. In terms of the materials, they most often come from the earth impressing an intrinsic awareness of the origin of things. This, coupled with the preservation of age-old techniques such as weaving, knotting, tying, and bundling, earn these creatives rightful acclaim as stewards at the interconnection of art and nature.

Adaptation: Artists Respond to Change which looks at the myriad ways artists change direction or their practice in response to changed circumstances like a move, a health issue, a shift in personal circumstances, climate change, or, more recently, a global pandemic.

Tom Grotta and Rhonda Brown, dealers of Fiber Art for over 30 years, open their private home, a converted 1895 barn for a salon-style exhibition of Modern Craft every year.
