Piers of the Past & Public Parks

June 5, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT

Free

Outdoors, meet at The Skyscraper Museum, 39 Battery Pl.

Built in 1884, Pier A, at the southern edge of Battery Park City, is the oldest pier of its kind in Manhattan. Starting at The Skyscraper Museum, across the street from Wagner Park, we will explore the landmarks that anchor the new neighborhood built on landfill that covered the old finger piers of the working waterfront. Join us for a walk that explores the history of the piers and parks of Battery Park City. After we consider life above and below the piers, kids will make a group drawing on a large roll of paper of an imaginary pier and enliven it with fish and boats they will make of colored paper and popsicle sticks. Recommended for 1st-5th grade.

This program meets at the Skyscraper Museum, 39 Battery Pl., and is held principally outdoors. The gallery will be accessible: masks are required indoors. For outdoor activities, we follow current NYS guidelines.

You must reserve a place for your child/family through the RSVP button. Every child should be accompanied by a parent/guardian. The maximum number of households per program is 20. In the event of bad weather, the rain date will be Saturday, June 26. We will notify you via Eventbrite.

Family programs are free! Reservation priority is given to Skyscrapers Museum members and residents of Battery Park City. Programs are supported by a Community Partnership with the Battery Park City Authority.
