The city’s Landmarks Preservation Law was introduced fifty years ago to protect historically significant buildings in New York City. The history of what has been undertaken during this period not only illuminates the restoration of our landmarks, but also tells of their transformation through adaptive reuse for a new purpose that better responds to society’s current goals while preserving the structures.
The evening will open with a look back at significant past adaptive reuse projects by the Chair of the Landmarks Preservation Commission, Meenakshi Srinivasan, followed by a review of current challenging projects in the first phases of construction, illustrated by the architects themselves.
