PRIVATE TOUR OF WEAVING THE COURTYARS PS1

June 16, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm EDT

$15 – $20

MoMA PS1 Courtyard, 22-25 Jackson Ave, Long Island City, NY. Meet in front of the museum entry kiosk at the intersection of 46th Ave & Jackson Ave. This is a special after-hours event. MoMA PS1 courtyard will only be open to our group.

The AIANY Interiors Committee invites you to join AIA members at MoMA PS1 for a private, after-hours tour of Weaving the Courtyard. Experience Weaving the Courtyard, a multi-colored, site-specific canopy of ropes that spans and shades the MoMA PS1 Courtyard. This year’s winner of MoMA’s Young Architects Program (YAP) in New York, Weaving the Courtyard uses the modulation of the concrete walls’ holes to introduce a web of colored ropes overhead, woven at varying densities to allow for different types of interaction and occupation throughout the day. Escobedo Solíz Studio’s playful yet functional intervention transforms the courtyard both physically and experientially, and creates dialogues between the built architecture and the ephemeral installation. The architects further embrace juxtaposition, introducing a reflective wading pool in the back of the courtyard that welcomes visitors to cool off and take a step back from the energetic canopy.

Sean Anderson  will open the event with a brief presentation, followed by a tour of Weaving the Courtyard led by Lazbent Pavel Escobedo and Andres Solíz of Escobedo Solíz Studio.
