Resilient by Design | Bay Area Challenge is an exciting new research and design initiative calling on architects, engineers, designers, and affiliated experts to submit Design Briefs and commit to a yearlong investigative challenge. Learning from community members and issue area experts, Design Teams will be tasked with identifying critical areas vulnerable to sea level rise and other climate challenges along the bayfront and proposing exciting, design-driven solutions to strengthen our region’s resilience. At the end of the Bay Area Challenge, ten innovative and implementable design solutions will create a blueprint for resilience that harnesses local and global innovation and serves as a model for communities around the world. The project is modeled after the successful Rebuild By Design, pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation, that followed Hurricane Sandy and rebuilt parts of New York and New Jersey to be resilient to storms and sea level rise. This time, we aren’t waiting for disaster to hit. We encourage applicants to submit a Design Brief for the Resilient by Design| Bay Area Challenge by Friday, July 7, 2017. Please visit the Challenge’s website to download the Design Brief here.
