Join the AIANY Planning and Urban Design Committee for an on-site tour of the newly revitalized Javits Convention Center
FXFOWLE and Epstein’s work on the Javits Center fulfilled its technological promise and overhauled its environmental and quality-of-life impact. The project includes a complete renovation and revitalization, a northward expansion, and a comprehensive sustainability strategy. The facility’s appearance, systems, urban linkages, and day-to-day performance have been transformed, while the original space frame and overall functionality have been maintained. A new, 6.75-acre green roof (the second largest in the U.S.) attracts a variety of bird species, while the new glazed window facade discourages bird collisions. The Javits Center recently achieved LEED Silver Certification, and received an Honorable Mention in this year’s AIANY COTE Awards program.
The real story is the revitalization/transformation of the building and the fulfillment of its intended purpose as a catalyst for development of West Midtown, while becoming a good neighbor – and the talk of tearing it down has finally gone away!
The tour will led by project architect Bruce Fowle, FAIA, Founding Principal, FXFOWLE Architects and Planners, who led the design team of FXFOWLE/ Epstein
