Solar Decathlon: Energy Efficiency and Disaster Resiliency

August 24, 2015 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

Energy Efficiency and Disaster Resiliency are the themes for our local Solar Decathlon teams, New York City College of Techonolgy’s DURAhome and Stevens Institute’s SURE HOUSE.

These ambitious students will be competing against 15 other college teams in Irvine, CA this fall. For this competition, they have added a local twist: disaster resiliency. Both teams have added innovative technology to make both energy efficient and a disaster resilient buildings.

As part of the competition each team has independently designed and financed their entry, which they expect be both NetZero and to meet Passive House standards. Come get a sneak peek of their innovative designs. Let’s send them off with a rousing cheer!

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, held biennially, challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency.

Team project managers and student representatives will present each project.
