On Tuesday, May 23rd from 6 pm to 12 am, Storefront for Art and Architecture will host its 2017 Spring Benefit, ARTIFACT, at Federal Hall (26 Wall Street). The event honors visionary architectural theorist Denise Scott Brown and renowned designer Murray Moss. During the evening, Storefront will present New Artifacts, limited editions of works specially created for the event by artist Adam McEwen, architects LOT-EK, and design collaborators Murray Moss and Lobmeyr.

About ARTIFACT

What are the fundamental ideas, organizations, books, buildings, artworks, and places that determine who we are and who we are to become? How do we make sure that in times of uncertainty, independent organizations continue to advocate for projects and ideas that take risks?

Federal Hall is the home of many foundational institutions of U.S. democracy. The original building, constructed in 1700 as New York’s City Hall, served as the first U.S. Capitol, witnessed the inauguration of the first U.S. President, and hosted the ratification of the Bill of Rights by the First Congress. The building that currently occupies the site, designed in 1842, was originally the United States Customs House and has been a hub of debate and dialogue throughout the evolution of U.S. political history.

ARTIFACT honors two visionaries who have compelled us to reassess traditional conceptions of art, architecture, and design. Denise Scott Brown’s legacy and practice spans over half a century, and her theoretical contributions have achieved canonical status. Murray Moss’s insightful curation has been seminal in the creation of a new global design culture and consciousness. Both of the honorees have consistently posed critical and cutting-edge questions, and they continue to challenge conventions, inspiring future generations of practitioners and innovators.
