Talking with Stone: The Noguchi Museum

Join the AIANY Cultural Facilities Committee on a tour of the Noguchi Museum, recently renovated by Sage and Coombe Architects, who will speak about the 15-year multi-phase project that included gallery renovations, a new bookstore and café, replacement of all building facades, creation of new program space, and building systems upgrades enabling the museum to remain open year-round. The tour will be complemented with a gallery talk by Isamu Noguchi scholar Deborah Goldberg, PhD, on the artist and his design work. Goldberg’s unpublished dissertation on Noguchi’s early design work is the most important source on this incredibly significant, but still underappreciated, facet of the artist’s incredible creative versatility.

Speakers:
Jenny Dixon, Executive Director, The Noguchi Museum
Deborah Goldberg, PhD, Art Historian and Noguchi Scholar
Jennifer Sage, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal, Sage and Coombe Architects
Peter Coombe, AIA, LEED AP, Principal, Sage and Coombe Architects
