Last night, the oldest and chapter of the American Institute of Architects, AIA New York (AIANY), announced the winners of the 2022 AIANY Design Awards. Numbering 25 in total spread across four different categories (Architecture, Interiors, Projects, and Urban Design), the winning projects were awarded to AIA members and architects practicing in New York City.
That said, the winning projects themselves aren’t necessarily within the five boroughs or even New York State, although a bulk (15 of them) are. The remaining ten 2022 AIANY Design Award winners not located in New York City can be found in locales ranging from San Diego to Minneapolis, Haiti to India, Taiwan to China, and Germany, which is home to two winning projects in Hamburg and Berlin. Two awards also went to Massachusetts-based projects.
Members of the jury for the 2022 AIANY Design Awards were:
- Sean Canty, founder of SSC, founding principal of Office III, and Assistant Professor of Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design
- Héctor Esrawe, founder of Esrawe Studio
- Ted Flato, founder of Lake|Flato
- Ying-yu Hung, managing principal at SWA
- Dana E. McKinney, architect and urban planner, enFOLD Collective, and development manager at Adre
- Christoph Reinhart, Professor of Building Technology at MIT and CEO of Solemma
- and Julie Snow, founding principal of Snow Kreilich Architects
Below is a breakdown of the winning projects, beginning with Honor recipients in all four categories followed by Merit and Citation recipients in each category.
