The 19th Venice Architecture Biennale is scheduled to open in Venice in May 2025: While the global design and architecture exhibition may seem like a long ways off, the Board of the biannual festival has already named its next curator Carlo Ratti, and The U.S. Department of State has issued its open call for applications to curate the exhibit for the U.S. Pavilion that will be on view for the duration of the Biennale.

As is the precedent, those encouraged to apply are nonprofits with 501 (c)(3) status. The State department anticipates a $350,000 grant will be awarded to the winning submission. Of these funds, $125,000 is allocated for the staffing and maintenance of the pavilion, and the remaining funds can be put toward work to realize the installation, its construction demands, shipping needs, and for the travel of the curators.

Those looking to apply can find details on the application guidelines here, and can expect to submit a project narrative detailing their proposal as well as anticipated budgetary information. Applications are due April 1, 2024.

The theme for the 19th iteration of the Biennale is slated to be announced in mid-2024, and the commissioners anticipate to name a recipient on May 1.
