AIA San Francisco and the Center for Architecture + Design present the 13th San Francisco Living: Home Tours, a two-day open house event, featuring a select number of modern residences. The popular event showcases a variety of architectural styles, neighborhoods and residences, including single-family homes and contemporary renovations, and is the first tour series in the Bay Area to promote residential design from the architect’s point of view.
Throughout the day, tour participants see some of the latest residential projects from the inside out, meet design teams, explore housing trends, and discover innovative design solutions that inspire unique San Francisco living. This year, the Home Tours program will featured 5 projects on Saturday and on Sunday AIASF and AIA San Mateo County team up to feature “House of Earth and Sky” by Aidlin Darling in Hillsborough CA. The 13th San Francisco Living: Home Tours will be held Saturday September 26, 2015 from 10am to 4pm and Sunday September 27, 2015 from 1pm to 5pm. See below for more information.
On this day, participants will be able to tour 5 featured homes (including an affordable housing project) throughout San Francisco. This tour is self-guided as each participant is invited to tour the projects at their own leisure throughout the day. Each of the residences will be open from 10am to 4pm for tour goers to explore the homes on the tour. Featured Homes on the Saturday September 26, 2015 include John Maniscalco Architecture, M-Projects with Larson Shores Architecture and Interiors, Paulett Taggart Architects, and more!

Come to the Open House portion of the tour where the design team will be on site to answer any of your questions about the home. This sustainable home celebrates the intersection of earth and sky. One enters below grade and ascends vertically through the ground to arrive in a series of glass pavilions, anchored by rammed earth walls and sheltered under kite-like floating roofs. Ecological responsibility guided the design of this LEED-Platinum, Net Zero Energy home. Earth walls utilize on-site material resources and provide thermal mass. Lightweight roof planes orient photovoltaics toward the sun, guide rainwater to cisterns, and provide shade through calibrated overhangs.
