Announcing an exciting opportunity for cross-disciplinary artists and designers to create a public commission at a historic site in Newburgh, NY. The opportunity comes with a budget of $10,000, and is part of a broader preservation and community engagement initiative.
This is the inaugural commission for Building Shells: Building Community, a preservation and design project that seeks to draw attention to building shells. Newburgh, NY boasts the second largest historic district in New York State outside of Brooklyn Heights. Yet, due to decades of disinvestment there are now 200 vacant buildings that negatively impact quality of life for the citizens of Newburgh. The Building Shells team believes that artists have a unique ability to creatively activate and shift the narrative around these existing shells, galvanizing residents’ interest and participation in the field of preservation.
NEED TO KNOW:
Applications are accepted through the Zealous platform until Monday, July 11 at 11:59PM ET
