archiSTART promote the international contest SELF CONSTRUCTION COMPETITION.
The Competition, has the aim of enhancing the space within the walls of the Ostello del Sole in San Cataldo, only 15km away from Lecce.
The installation created will characterize the scenario within which the new edition of the International Architecture Holiday will take place, with 100 young men and women from all over the world. The hostel will hosts numerous events, concerts, outdoor workshops for the period going from June to September.
A real opportunity for all of the participating teams to gain visibility and confront themselves with the problems arising from the direct realization of a project by evaluating its aesthetic, functional, and economic aspects.
This installation should strongly characterize the area andwill be completely developed by the winning group with the support of the archiSTART team who will coordinate the production process.
Self-Construction competition reaches its second edition. After the success of the inaugural edition last year – on the occasion of the international architecture workshop IAHsummer15 – archiSTART team sets up SCC #2. In 2015 two self-constructions were realized at the Ostello del Sole in San Cataldo (LE), the location of IAH summer edition. The winning projects “Connection’s Scape” and “White Extension “ regenerated the neglected spaces of the hostel, giving to IAH 100 participants from all over the world a projection area and an eclectic relax zone.
archiSTART will allocate a budget of 1000 euro and draw a few guidelines to set up an installation. This will represent an occasion for all of those young designers ready to compete and to transform thousands of ideas into reality by sketching them on paper. This will be an initial approach to employment where participants will make an accurate choice of materials, confront themselves with the economic aspects of the activity carried out, and physically build and implement their conceived project.
The winning teams will be hosted in San Cataldo, in the Ostello del Sole from 1 to 8 July 2016; one full week completely dedicated to the choice of the materials to be used, as well as to the development of the project. During “IAH Summer 16” event (from the 1st to 9th of August 2015) the installations will be seen and used by professionals, students and young architects.
The competition is open to university students, graduates and young professionals under 32 years. Every team can be composed of 1 up to 4 people. The winning teams will have the possibility to build the project with overnight stay in the Ostello del Sole from 1 to 8 of July 2016 and win an economic award.
Among the two winning groups, one or more participants will be selected to complete for an internship in the architectural practice ARCò
