New Practices New York Winner Presentation: Studio Cadena

New Practices New York Winner Presentation: Studio Cadena

Join AIANY New Practices New York and The Architect’s Newspaper at the Cosentino Showroom (A&D Building 150 E 58th Street) for “Presence,” a talk by AIANY New Practices New York competition winner Studio Cadena.

In an increasingly ephemeral, fragmented and digitized world, we find ourselves more restless, distant, endlessly distracted, and alone. Architecture can become a tool to help us reconnect – to be more present. We must embrace an architecture that articulates experience rather than form. In the context of New York, and through the lens of past projects and future ambitions, Studio Cadena principal Benjamin Cadena will discuss how young firms can produce work that intensifies engagement of place and with each other. Following his presentation, Cadena will be joined by Jing Liu, principal of SO-IL.

Studio Cadena is a young, Brooklyn-based practice that engages contemporary life, the city, and its people. Lead by Benjamin Cadena, the studio foregrounds the real, the sensory, and the spatial. Through speculative and built work, Studio Cadena aspires to shape new and captivating spaces, places, and experiences.

The biennial competition New Practices New York is a preeminent platform in New York City to recognize and promote new and innovative architecture and design firms. The juried portfolio competition is sponsored by the AIANY New Practices Committee and honors firms that have utilized unique and innovative strategies, both for the projects they undertake and for the practices they have established. 2016 marks the 10th anniversary of the New Practices Committee and the New Practices New York competition.
