Rest in Peace

Lynn Backalenick, account executive at The Architect’s Newspaper, passes away

The Architect’s Newspaper (AN) lost one of its most valuable members on December 26th. Lynn Backalenick, our long-time Account Executive, died in New York after a brief illness.

It is often the editors at AN who are invited to speak on behalf of the paper and attend PR firm fetes. Lynn worked more behind the scenes but was nevertheless essential. She came to The Architect’s Newspaper with a graphic design background, not knowing anything about the architecture profession, but helped sustain the paper during a tough financial period. AN is a collaborative organization and Lynn’s ability to charmingly present the paper to potential advertisers and build special relationships was unique and successful. Her warm, broadcaster-quality voice was no small part of her charm.

Lynn was the first in the office every day with her optimistic and positive attitude, which quickly spread to the rest of the staff as they arrived. The Architect’s Newspaper has been in existence for 15 years and Lynn, over her six years here, was as responsible as anyone for its continued success. Lynn is irreplaceable and will be missed by everyone who came into contact with her bright smile and laugh. She is survived by her husband, Jim Kendrick, her mother, sisters, and brother.
